What is the easiest way to log a migraine attack on iPhone?

The easiest way is to save the attack first and fill in details later. Tap once when it starts so the start time is recorded, then add severity, triggers and medication when you can look at a screen again. Quiet Room, a free iPhone migraine log, is built around exactly that: one dark screen, two taps to a saved attack.

What to write down, and when

You can follow this with a notes app or paper. The point is to record the start immediately and everything else afterward.

WhenWhat to record
At the startOnly the time. One tap or one line is enough.
During, if you canA coarse severity (mild, moderate, severe, or a 1 to 10 number) and any medication you took, with name, dose and time.
When it stopsThe end time, so duration is on record.
Later the same daySymptoms (aura, nausea, sensitivity to light, noise or smells) and possible triggers from the day before, such as a skipped meal, poor sleep, stress, weather, screen time, alcohol, caffeine or dehydration.
Before an appointmentA summary for the date range: number of attacks, days affected, average severity, frequent triggers, medication taken.
  1. Keep the first step tiny. If logging needs a form, it will not happen during an attack.
  2. Use chips or short words, not sentences. Tapping a trigger is faster than typing it.
  3. Add forgotten attacks afterward. A late entry with an approximate time is better than a gap.
  4. Count days, not only attacks. Days affected is a number a clinician can work with.
  5. Ask your doctor what they want recorded. They may ask for different details than the list above.
